The town of Newark on Trent has a strong historical heritage centred on the Castle. The town is the home of the National Civil War Centre and with this rich history as well as being located in close proximity to other tourist attractions it draws in thousands of tourists each year.
Newark Urban Area acts as a ‘Sub-Regional Centre’. The town is the main location for services, jobs, retail, education and is a focus for transport for most of the District.
The Government awarded the town with Growth Point status to provide further economic investment and growth.
To facilitate this growth three major sustainable urban extensions are taking place to the south and east of Newark along with various highway improvements.
The A46 trunk road which connects the East and West Midlands has been dualled and a new roundabout at the southern entrance to Newark has been constructed. A Southern Relief Road to link the A46 to the A1 is also underway as Newark grows, expands and becomes better connected.
